The bump and flow of the night-dark city was muted, grayed-out, far below the wide pane of glass. Slouched easily behind his massive but essentially functionless desk, Edward watched his reflection superimposed over the broad, winking skyline. He liked the way he looked holding the phone. He liked the way his eyes darted across his desk, a true multitasker. He liked the heft and glint of the sleek watch clasped around his wrist. Edward turned his wrist slightly so he could get a better look in the glass.
And then his arm got longer, snaking out of his crisp sleeve, past the polished onyx cufflinks. Edward managed to snatch the phone out of his extending arm with his one normal hand and switch the phone to his other ear, barely missing a beat.
“I gotta go, ” Edward said.
